During the SA 210 Call, and with the huge help of Selma Rivas and her team from Oak Hills Church, Ethnos Missions is focusing their time, talent and treasure with the children and youth on the Westside. Hosting VBS in five SAHA Housing Projects was no small undertaking. But take it on these teams did and with amazing results. What will the rest of 2010 bring with regard to revival and the transformation of our city? How close are we to seeing what many have been praying for over the years? And what will it look like when it happens?

I believe we are in the early phases of revival in San Antonio right now! I have listed several observations below on why I believe this to be true. These are presented in no particular order and while each one is important, collectively they give astounding evidence that we are well on our way!

•A dissatisfaction with the status quo.

No more church as usual! Across our city there seems to be a stirring for more. This may well be the start of the desperation that God desires from us. More of the Holy Spirit working through every day ordinary people that will accomplish extraordinary things!

•An increased answer to prayer.

Prayer, prayer everywhere! From City-Reachers weekly prayer times to the movement called One Continent-One Prayer to prayer meetings in homes and congregations... San Antonio is praying!

• A mega church that is in year two of moving form an attractional model to an Acts model. 

Oak Hills Church is currently in the process of reshaping their entire staff to help move their people from the pews and into their neighborhoods. This is no longer an idea but includes a strategic plan that is mind boggling. They are actively pursuing this vision right now including researching and developing ways to partner with others to be Jesus to San Antonio. This is so radical that only Jesus could have set the vision in place and developed the plan to pull it off. Stay tuned for details!

•An increase in partnerships and alliances.

Never before have I seen such a willingness to work together. Alliances like Somebody Cares SA and The Eastside Fellowship represent the current mindset of much of the church today in our city and others like "Undivided" are forming regularly. We must see the needs of our city and we must work together in order to make an even greater difference. And congregations and ministries are coming together like never before.

•The local government desiring to partner with the Church.

I am aware of at least two city council members who are actively seeking relationships with pastors and ministry leaders in order to impact their communities. Outreach has already taken place where the city and the Church are working together to see lasting change. This will likely increase in the coming months as fruit begins to surface from these relationships.

So how should we respond and how soon will it grow to a tipping point? Clearly there are biblical principles that we can continue to incorporate that will enable us to invite His presence in even greater ways. Prayer, biblical unity, evangelism and discipleship will all move the very heart of Almighty God. So come on San Antonio… pray, recognize that there really is more, find your place, build relationships, and endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit!  TOGETHER, we can witness and take part in the most amazing and impactful revival and awakening that this city has ever seen!

For over 6 months we met and prayed. Guest speakers including teachers on the Kingdom and the former chief economist for the city of San Antonio came to enlighten us further. Our desire was to hear from the heart of God concerning the role of the marketplace with regard to community transformation. And He remains faithful!

It is important to note that the marketplace is the heartbeat of our city. The decisions that impact our daily lives are made in this arena defined as business, government and education. The marketplace shapes and impacts our community like no other institution. It has influence and vast resources that pointed in the right direction can literally change the course of history in our city.

So how would God direct this institution? Better yet, how would He direct you to shape the institution and point it in the right direction…? His! That is exactly what we were asking over these last several months and below is the initial expression of what we believe God desires to accomplish:

The Community Transformation MAC are people in the marketplace who join forces to empower individuals, organizations and institutions to achieve their maximum purpose in Christ in order to impact our city.

The current expressions below are a starting point for engaging the marketplace in community transformation. 

OUTREACH: Developing effective ways to reach those in the marketplace with the gospel of the Kingdom and establish expressions of marketplace ministry that include Kingdom business models, mentoring and partnerships with compassion ministries.

PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT: Reaching out in practical ways to establish resume preparation, job searches, job training, employment opportunities, servant leaders and financial stewardship.

BUSINESS OPPORTUNTIES: Developing creative ways to invite new business ventures which will employ residents and impact communities. Current focus is on opening a Christian pre-school.

ETERNAL INVESTMENTS: stewarding resources to ministry efforts in order to elevate impact!

In addition to these expressions, we are spending the next three months meeting with gifted teachers to learn about the Kingdom believing if we can begin to grasp and understand this important biblical topic we can better serve our city through the marketplace (click here to see the details of these meetings and join us).
